Continual learning and growth is an important part of being involved with Matthews House.
We provide many opportunities for volunteers to attend training sessions and learning seminars. Below is a list of a few of the
training opportunities we offer. In 2015/2016, 100% of our professional staff took part in opportunities to formally upgrade their knowledge, skills and abilities.
We invite volunteers to learn along with us.

30 Hour Hospice On-Line Training including one in-house training session.
All volunteers must complete, 30 Hour Hospice on-line training course and one in-house training session.  We accept a maximum of 16 trainees per course,
giving new volunteers the opportunity to bond with each other, members of staff and other volunteers. Learning materials are provided.
This training is held three times a year.

For volunteers who have completed our 30 Hour on-line training and wish to volunteer at our Residential Hospice, End of Life training MUST be undertaken.

Learning Seminars
On the third Thursday of every month we host learning seminars for volunteers and clients. These sessions last 2 hours, are led by a wide array
of speakers and touch on a variety of different topics. Previous Learning Seminar topics are Ethics, Navigating the Healthcare System, and Stress and Fatigue. Information provided is not only helpful to those who volunteer but can be used in day-to-day life too. Sessions are open to the general public.

There is an expectation that volunteers undertake a minimum of 7 hours continued development (training) each year in order to keep their
skillets up-to-date and current. For more information about volunteer training or our upcoming Learning Seminars, please call (705) 435-7218.
